C is for Crochet

One of the challenges at Scrapbooker's Anonymous this month is to use the letter "C" to inspire.  I've used lots of Crate Paper Farmhouse collection, fabric covered Chipboard letters, a Crochet theme, and some actual Crocheted embellishment.

The layout uses this month's challenge layout at Artfuldelight.blogspot.com

Journaling reads:

In the 6th grade, I saw my friend Cindy crocheting.  I wanted to learn and Mother got Nan Price to come over and give me a lesson.  Soon I was going to Nan’s house each week for lessons.  I made coat hanger covers, toboggans and soon graduated to full afghans.  My favorite pattern was the Park Avenue made in strips and then crocheted together.  This was one of the last I did for our house in 1993.  I took up quilting and eventually my hands protested the repetitive motion of crocheting.  I miss my favorite craft.  Time spent with patterns, yarn and needles will always be a wonderful memory.  I was definitely…
Hooked on Crochet

I was a crochet fiend for years making almost all my gifts for friends and family during high school and college.  I learned to knit, too but my stitches were never as even as crochet.

While I don't regularly crochet anymore, I have found that my hands will tolerate just a bit like the scalloped border here.  I keep a neutral color of crochet cotton and then use ink to dye the finished product to suit the page.  In this case, I dyed it in Riding Hood Red classic ink from Stampin' Up!

I really miss crocheting particularly now that it is so popular again and there are so many beautiful yarns.  It was a great hobby to do in front of the TV.  I've been coloring some stamped images instead.

Thanks for visiting!

  1. Lovely page, I just love the Crate Paper! Way to make use of the letter "C"! I tried to teach myself to crochet, buy my stitches are never as good as my knitting, just the opposite of you. I suppose that's because I learned to knit at a child (my grandmother taught me). I'm thrilled to see both knitting and crocheting becoming popular again!

  4. neat page. I've just started crocheting again - making doilies for Christmas presents. I think I'll have to do some borders for pages - thanks for the great idea :)

  5. I love this layout.
I too enjoy both knitting and crochet.
I learned to crochet in a couple of hours, I family friend taught me while I was staying with them over the week. I learned how to make a granny square. I made two and the lady that taught me sewed a liner and I made a purse. I thought I was so clever ;)
